Do you struggle with getting the right consistency when decorating your own cookies at home? Do you wonder how to get that beautiful, shiny, and puffy icing each time you decorate? Do you wonder how to achieve puffy layers of icing on top of one another without having it crater on you? Do you struggle with puffy writing? Having all the cookie tools is not always beneficial if you don’t have the fundamentals of icing consistency and piping. Whether you are brand new to cookies or have been decorating for 10+ years, this class will help you progress towards mastering the essentials of icing consistency and decorating. We will achieve this through decorating a birthday themed set of cookies you can use over and over again for your own custom sets. Classes on icing consistency are the most popular in-person classes I offer in my home as well as at previous CookieCons.
In this class we will:
- Make a batch of icing together in class.
- Allow you to ask all of your icing questions in real time.
- Mix and color three different icings together and get them to the right consistency.
- Mix each other’s icing (you will get to mix and feel my icing while I mix and feel your icing and give you immediate feedback).
- Work with 2 different icing consistencies.
- Create texture through piping.
- Create transfers to help add details to cookies.
- Practice different piping techniques to help with straight and curved lines.
- Work on perfecting puffy writing.
- Discuss how to maintain puffy icing on top without it cratering.
- Discuss and practice how to maintain separation between different sections of icing.
- Pipe and flood the 4 different birthday themed cookies pictured here.
- Paint with markers.
Whew! Did you catch all of that?! This class is jam packed with a TON of information! You will walk away with 4 beautifully decorated cookies and a deeper understanding of how to color your icing and get it to the right consistency. My goal is that by the end of class, you will have the confidence to go home and create beautiful cookies with each and every order you put out. You will also have the opportunity to ask me all of your burning questions during class that relate to the decorating process in general. At the end of class you will be provided with a box to carry your cookies home in. You will also receive a swag bag full of goodies to help you recreate these cookies at home.
